ET Article – Essar’s Green Mobility Ecosystem Powering India’s Freight Transition

GreenLine’s Role in Building India’s Clean Freight Ecosystem
India’s freight sector is an important part of its industrial growth, connecting manufacturing centres, markets and supply chains across the country. As this network expands, cleaner freight solutions are becoming an increasingly important part of the logistics landscape.
An ET Government article highlights the growing role of integrated ecosystems in enabling this transition, bringing together cleaner vehicles, energy infrastructure and fleet operations.
GreenLine Mobility Solutions forms the logistics and operations layer of this ecosystem, with a fleet of more than 1,000 LNG and electric trucks serving industries including steel, cement, mining, infrastructure, chemicals, FMCG and e-commerce. The fleet has covered more than 70 million kilometres, demonstrating the application of cleaner heavy-duty mobility in commercial operations.
The ecosystem extends beyond the trucks. Through Ultra Gas & Energy Ltd. (UGEL), GreenLine is supported by an expanding network of LNG refuelling and clean energy infrastructure. UGEL’s energy hubs bring together LNG refuelling, EV charging and battery-swapping capabilities, supporting the adoption of different clean mobility solutions across freight routes.
This integrated approach recognises that freight applications vary. LNG is currently well suited to long-haul operations, while electric mobility can support shorter and more predictable routes. As new technologies mature, the ecosystem can continue to evolve alongside the requirements of the freight sector.
GreenLine is part of a broader plan to scale clean freight across India, with an ambition to deploy 10,000 LNG and electric trucks supported by 100 alternative fuel and charging hubs over the coming years.
As the article notes, the next phase of India’s freight transition will be shaped not by a single technology, but by the ability to bring vehicles, infrastructure and operations together at scale.
For GreenLine, that means continuing to build a practical clean logistics ecosystem that can support India’s growing industrial and supply chain requirements.
